Chinatown (west-northwest) is a neighbourhood of Vancouver, in Metro Vancouver. At the 2021 Census of Canada it had a population of 2,943 living in private households. 39.6% of residents identified as members of a racialized (visible minority) group, against 54.5% across Metro Vancouver as a whole; the largest single group was Chinese at 14.3%. 49.3% were Caucasian (not a visible minority, excluding Indigenous identity), and 11.1% reported Indigenous identity. Immigrants made up 29.7% of the population, compared with 41.8% citywide. Median household income before tax was $38,000 in 2020, compared with $90,000 for Metro Vancouver. 84.1% of households rented rather than owned. The neighbourhood covers 0.21 km², giving a population density of 13,701 people per square kilometre (Metro Vancouver averages about 879).
