Brownsville (south-southeast) is a neighbourhood of Surrey, in Metro Vancouver. At the 2021 Census of Canada it had a population of 4,204 living in private households. 88.3% of residents identified as members of a racialized (visible minority) group, against 54.5% across Metro Vancouver as a whole; the largest single group was South Asian at 80.6%. 10.2% were Caucasian (not a visible minority, excluding Indigenous identity), and 1.3% reported Indigenous identity. Immigrants made up 51.4% of the population, compared with 41.8% citywide. Median household income before tax was $99,000 in 2020, compared with $90,000 for Metro Vancouver. 41.4% of households rented rather than owned. The neighbourhood covers 1.28 km², giving a population density of 3,279 people per square kilometre (Metro Vancouver averages about 879).
