Thompson (southwest) is a neighbourhood of Richmond, in Metro Vancouver. At the 2021 Census of Canada it had a population of 4,600 living in private households. 79.4% of residents identified as members of a racialized (visible minority) group, against 54.5% across Metro Vancouver as a whole; the largest single group was Chinese at 55.2%. 19.7% were Caucasian (not a visible minority, excluding Indigenous identity), and 1.0% reported Indigenous identity. Immigrants made up 58.9% of the population, compared with 41.8% citywide. Median household income before tax was $96,000 in 2020, compared with $90,000 for Metro Vancouver. 18.2% of households rented rather than owned. The neighbourhood covers 1.53 km², giving a population density of 3,000 people per square kilometre (Metro Vancouver averages about 879).
