Downtown (east-southeast 2) is a neighbourhood of New Westminster, in Metro Vancouver. At the 2021 Census of Canada it had a population of 3,275 living in private households. 40.4% of residents identified as members of a racialized (visible minority) group, against 54.5% across Metro Vancouver as a whole; the largest single group was South Asian at 9.0%. 55.6% were Caucasian (not a visible minority, excluding Indigenous identity), and 4.0% reported Indigenous identity. Immigrants made up 35.3% of the population, compared with 41.8% citywide. Median household income before tax was $69,500 in 2020, compared with $90,000 for Metro Vancouver. 64.6% of households rented rather than owned. The neighbourhood covers 0.51 km², giving a population density of 6,368 people per square kilometre (Metro Vancouver averages about 879).
