Uptown (north-northwest) is a neighbourhood of New Westminster, in Metro Vancouver. At the 2021 Census of Canada it had a population of 5,830 living in private households. 41.8% of residents identified as members of a racialized (visible minority) group, against 54.5% across Metro Vancouver as a whole; the largest single group was Chinese at 9.7%. 56.1% were Caucasian (not a visible minority, excluding Indigenous identity), and 2.1% reported Indigenous identity. Immigrants made up 45.3% of the population, compared with 41.8% citywide. Median household income before tax was $62,400 in 2020, compared with $90,000 for Metro Vancouver. 47.1% of households rented rather than owned. The neighbourhood covers 0.62 km², giving a population density of 9,394 people per square kilometre (Metro Vancouver averages about 879).
