Metrotown (east-southeast 1) is a neighbourhood of Burnaby, in Metro Vancouver. At the 2021 Census of Canada it had a population of 9,709 living in private households. 83.9% of residents identified as members of a racialized (visible minority) group, against 54.5% across Metro Vancouver as a whole; the largest single group was Chinese at 54.3%. 15.5% were Caucasian (not a visible minority, excluding Indigenous identity), and 0.6% reported Indigenous identity. Immigrants made up 62.6% of the population, compared with 41.8% citywide. Median household income before tax was $58,400 in 2020, compared with $90,000 for Metro Vancouver. 46.4% of households rented rather than owned. The neighbourhood covers 0.73 km², giving a population density of 13,298 people per square kilometre (Metro Vancouver averages about 879).
